Your last solo album 'Third Coast Born' was a big album last year. How did it do for you and Big Shot Records?

'Third Coast Born' was one of the biggest successes my company had thus far.

Did it sell better than the Botany Boyz releases?

Actually it did do better than the Botany Boyz. It was the first album that debuted on Billboard for my record company, Big Shot Records. But I think part of the success was because of the Botany album. It was building up. My company sees better numbers with every release. It's improving. I'm satisfied as long as we improve each time. We're expecting to do at least 50,000 copies of this next Botany album, 'Forever Botany', right out the gates.

Are people saying your solo album was similar to Botany Boyz or different?

A lotta people did notice that the production was different. They did like it. They liked the fact that I got tracks from Tone Capone up in the Bay Area. They liked the fact that I still used D Red's tracks. They liked the fact that I mixed 'em up and showed universal love.

What are you working on now for Big Shot Records?

All of us are currently workin on our solo projects. 'Third Coast Born 2000' is the title of my next album. Wil-Lean, he's workin on his, it's called 'Wil-Lean The Chemist. We got a compilation comin also this year called 'Smokin N Lean'n 2000.' My company normally drops at least one album a year, but I'm lookin to expand my business bigger and better to drop at least 3 or 4 albums a year. That's my goal.

Who's making the beats on the new Botany Boyz album?

I worked with some of the people that I worked wit on 'Third Coast Born.' I worked with D-Red and Wil-Lean and Jhiame - he did my last hit song 'Diamonds In Yo' Face.' 'Diamonds In Yo' Face' got major radio play out here. That was the first time my ocmpany got so much radio also.

How did that song become such a big hit?

I presented it to Mad Hatter out here. Out here on the radio we have something called 'Straight From The Streets.' I thought it was one of the best song on my album, so I gave it to Mad Hatter and he played it. We got such a good response with people callin up and requestin it, that blew the song up. The song even went number one. It was in the top countdown for 5 or 6 months.
